About the Petronas Adventure Team

The Petronas Adventure Team (PAT) is a division within PETRONAS Motorsport that organises 4-Wheel Drive and motorbike expeditions locally and abroad. Their vision has taken them to diverse environments around the globe - from hostile deserts and snow-capped mountains to pristine rainforest and ancient trails through the oldest civilisations on earth. The team has been on seven expeditions - the Trans Himalayas, Trans Sahara, Africa, Siberia, Silk Road, Indochina and Tibet.

Ford Malaysia has been the Official Vehicle for PAT since 2004 when 19 vehicles took part in the Petronas Trans Sahara Expedition. The team successfully completed a grueling 39-day odyssey over 10,000km, flagging off at Khartoum, Sudan on August 30, 2004 and driving through Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria, before finally completing their expedition in Morocco on October 7, 2004. Two Ford Everest XLT manual and one Ford Ranger XL were the Official PAT Vehicles for this journey.

In 2005 the team once again set off on another exciting journey, this time to the Everest Base Camp that stands 5,200m above sea level on the north face of the Himalayas. This expedition consisting of 63 team members in 23 vehicles was flagged off from Kuala Lumpur on August 17 and then passed through Thailand, Myanmar and China. One of the main challenges facing the team was the high altitude as the route took them across five mountain passes that were more than 5,000m high.

On September 9, after 24 grueling days and covering almost 7,500km, the Petronas Adventure Team in their Ford 4X4 vehicles the Ford Everest and Ford Ranger successfully reached the Everest Base Camp. This was a great accomplishment for the team as this is the first time a convoy has been allowed into Everest Base Camp from the North side. This 43-day adventure ended in Shenzen, China on September 30, covering a distance of over 15,000km.

The Petronas Adventure Team bring to life the "Built Ford Tough" reputation of the Ford Ranger and the Ford Everest through their expeditions that push both man and machine to the limit.
